Why Dry Brushing?

The benefits of dry brushing include lymphatic support, exfoliation, clean pores, cellulite help, and increased energy and blood flow. Circulation improves, your skin becomes softer, skin infections and irritations can be reduced, whole body freshness is enhanced, and even colds can be prevented.

Dry brushing can also help reduce the appearance of both new and old stretch marks. Daily Mom suggests that dry brushing can help stretch marks begin to fade by increasing the absorption rate of skin lotions.

Supporters of dry brushing claim that it can stimulate the lymph system, help the body rid itself of toxins and increase circulation of energy. Even dermatologists agree that gently brushing the skin does have exfoliating benefits and may go beyond skincare by stimulating the body in a way similar to massage, which certainly does have well-documented benefits.

This ancient five-thousand-year-old tradition has multiple benefits, having been celebrated for exfoliation and aiding in combating dry skin, increased blood flow and energy plus cellulite reduction.

Throughout usage circulation improves, your skin becomes softer and many reported a surge in energy levels due to the stimulation of the nervous system. The birth of Okaa-San grew from our very own Founder and Director having used the oil and dry brush throughout all three of her pregnancies and finding that her skin remained soft and supple throughout, with no stretch marks forming either!

When she realised this was the case she wanted to help her friends too, so gifted them a brush and oil to try...they too found they developed no stretch marks throughout their pregnancies and enjoyed the multiple benefits of the system and the increased invigoration it brought with it.

When we spoke to our Founder and Director Kerris she had this to say about the benefits of our dry brush:

“The brush will cause a little bit of redness to the skin; you want a little bit so that it is feeding the skin. It does help with that itching, I know that as you get bigger and bigger it just gets so sore, doesn’t it! If you hold the brush and you are just going over the skin you can feel it’s quite a rough brush, but afterward you do feel a tingly feeling.

So if you are finding you are feeling quite sensitive to it, as a therapist what we do is you put your hand over it and it just takes that itchiness away if you wipe your hand over it as you carry out the dry brushing technique. You can use it anywhere on the body, it’s great for circulation, it’s great for dry skin, it’s actually great for cellulite too, it’s kind of an all-rounder and it’s great for a detox as well.

I used to go around in a circle, but you can do upwards motions as well if you do it upwards kind of put your hand over so you are taking that bristliness away. I did this every night and it’s a really nice routine before going to bed and then put the oil on. It’s great for that connection with partners.

The brush is really important, it is just as important as the oil. When using the brush your skin has to be dry, don’t do it after a bath or shower as your skin is too soft so it can be a little bit too much. Just go over for a few minutes and you'll feel when you've had enough and then you’ll see a little bit of pink on your skin then go over with the oil.”

Finally, our Dry Brush Bristles are natural cactus bristles which gives them a lot more strength, but they keep themselves clean as long as you don’t put oil directly onto the brush. They are completely natural, and the oil is pure organic Japanese camellia oil.

So, as you can see, the benefits of dry brushing are endless, couple this with our wonderfully nourishing oil and you shall reap all of the benefits of the world’s first ground-breaking system to aid in combatting stretch marks.
